This image could do with re-titling. You will note that the tree has a railing around it. This is the famous oak tree that grew in Leamington and was said to mark the centre of England.

I walked past that tree each day on my way to school during the 1960s. It was a little bit bigger then, but still alive and very healthy. It was known locally as "The Midland Oak" I have been told, but have not checked, that it has been removed to assist the people who find steering their cars a little difficult. Perhaps the tree had also started to die back. A visit to Google Maps seem to confirm my story: tinyurl.com/Midland-Oak

To be precise, the geocoding should be just under a mile to the west, just north of Fairhill Road near the Bannockburn Heritage Centre.
