phoenixesrose: So nice with these comparative pictures in colour! Thanks a lot for identifying the buildings - and yes - they seem so well preserved. No wonder the Historic Town of Goslar is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. /Anna B.

Chapel of ruined Church of St. Simon and Judas, Goslar, Germany

These are the Ruins of the Church St. Simon & Judas, in Goslar, built between 1050 and 1150 during Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor of Germany's reign. Only one end of it exists (which is the end pictured here and below) because of wars and dismantling by the local population.

Goslar is a UNESCO world Heritage site now, because of is building, the half timbered buildings in the town, and the Kaiserpfalz (the former ruling hall of Henry IV).

Thanks for giving us the name of the church! We will now complete our information on the photograph. /Anna B.

May I add that the former cathedrale in Goslar was not destroyed "by wars" but was torn down because the city could afford to refurbish the cathedral.
