At a luncheon party given by the Royal Italian Consul General and Mrs. Mariani on Wednesday at their private residence the guests included Me E. J. Riordan, Director, Trade and Indugtry Branch, Department of Industry and Commerce, and Mrs, Riordan ; Mr. R, C. Ferguon, Department of Industry and Commerce; Rev, Father Hannon.S.J.. Miltown Park; Captain Vittorio Napoli and Mrs. Napoli. Captain Napoli is an officer in the Italian Grenadiers stationed at Derna, Cirenaica, North Africa, and is at present in Dublin on leave. Mrs. Napoli was formerly Miss Kathleen McKenna, of Oldcastle, Co, Meath, and was at one time private secretary to Mr Desmond Fitzgerald, and later second private secretary to the Minister for Industry and Commerce in Mr, Cosgrave’s Government.

On two occasions in 1950, the Catholic Standard referred to her as Kathleen Napoli McKenna. In the 29th Sept edition there is an article by her about an Easter visit to Rome, and specifically about the Scala Santa..

According to BEA76 in the archive, Seán Mac Caoilte is the Hitler mustache guy beside Béaslaí.

The dib says: The apprehensions indicated in the novel help to explain why Béaslaí took the pro-treaty side in 1922. After the dáil vote he was sent to America by Collins to publicise the pro-treaty case; he returned to Dublin shortly before the civil war and was chief press censor during the conflict.

The Catalogue also names James E. Deery. A HAGS says he was AOH National President: James E. Deery 1919-1923.

Emmanuel Patrick MacSwiney, Marquis of Mashanaglass (1871-1945) was born in Paris, his father being an Irish banker and his mother a Polish countess. A gifted linguist, he served on several diplomatic missions for the Holy See, being created a marquis by Pope Leo XIII in 1895. In 1914 he and his family settled in Dublin, where he joined the Irish Volunteers.
