There is more information on this cannon and a second cannon used by the Maderistas in the battle of Juarez, the so-called McGinty cannon, at netdotcom.com/revmexpc.cannon.pc, a website devoted to post cards of the Mexican Revolution. It was evidently cast in Chihuahua City under the direction of Giuseppe Garabaldi, a grandson of the Italian patriot who had joined the Maderistas. Lonn Taylor

Hello History Buffs! I am trying to ID a cannon presently housed at the El Paso Museum of History (2nd Floor). It sits on top of a wooden carriage (dark green fading paint) - sorry, I don't know cannon terminology- that measures 73 inches long. The barrel looks to be made out of iron and measures 301/2 inches long with a 2 inch smooth bore (other end measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and is closed off). There are two wooden wagon-style wheels (each w/ 16 spokes) and both are put together in halves (height of each of the wheels is 44 1/4 inches...it looks nothing like the cannon depicted above but is believed to have been used during the Mexican Revolution. Found this picture in El Paso Herald issue May 11 [that is one day after Juarez take], 1911 (The Library of Congress, Cronicling America chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn88084272/1911-05-11/ed-... ). You can read: "Bottom picture shows gun made by Garibaldi at Casas Grandes, which was used to shell the federals in Juárez during the attack. Behind the cannon is an ambulance used by Dr. Wilson´s [There's a photo depicting Dr. Wilson in this collection "Americans with Madero [LC-B2-2224-10] insurrecto hospital corps". The Pictures were made by a Herald staff man. Dr. Roberto Duarte

Between 1910 and 1915 took place only two manned free balloon flights in Mexico City, both in early 1914: On the Sunday, January 25, the mexican aviation pioneer Alberto Braniff Ricard (1885-1966) and the french technician Jules Dubois flew on a 2,200 m3 Gordon Bennett hydrogen-filled balloon just brought from France by Braniff himself. They took off from a Braniff's plot beside the former Colonia Railway Station (Estación Colonia) near the Paseo de la Reforma avenue (the balloon in the photograph seems to be above this place). As a Braniff´s guest were aboard the legendary mexican ballooning pioneer Joaquín de la Cantolla y Rico (1829-1914), at that time already an elder man, who would die three days later. The second flight took off on the Saturday, January 31, in the same place and on the same Gordon Bennett balloon manned by Braniff and Dubois. Does cowboy park mean rodeo? If so, in México is called lienzo charro, and the photo seems it was taken on the wall of the corral.
