This appears to be Maurice Renaud, celebrated French baritone, 1861- October 17, 1933. www.cantabile-subito.de/Baritones/Renaud__Maurice/renaud_... Renaud had been a star in New York in Oscar Hammerstein's Manhattan Opera Company.from 1906 to 1910, untli that company closed in a deal with the Metropolitan Opera. As this photo may relate to the March, 1915 news stream, his New York Times obituary in 1933 notes "When the World War broke out, Renaud enlisted as a private, though over 50 years old. His war record was brilliant. He won a number of successive promotions and in March, 1915 was cited for "the utmost devotion under all circumstances, in fighting and in camp." He had distinguished himself in Fresnes by repairing telephonic equipment during a violent bombardment. select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F40B1EFF395B137A... He was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French Governnment, and seriously wounded in battle. He retired from the stage in 1919.
