    Costume Party, New York City, January, 1914. These probably were celebrites of the New York arts community. Mrs. J. M. Flagg, for example, would be the wife of the artist James Montgomery Flagg, who is remembered now as the delineator of an iconic portrait of "Uncle Sam," in a WWI-era recruiting poster (often parodied) in which Sam points a finger at the viewer while declaring "I WANT YOU / FOR U.     Thanks artolog: You are right that given the context of this image, that the artist Harry Grant Art could be depicted. I was unable to find a confirming photograph of him however, so we will add his name with "probably" to the description.

    [When the photo was taken, Thaw was freezing . . .] Having escaped from a New York insane asylum in 1913 and fled to Canada, Harry K. Thaw, the murderer of Architect Stanford White, was extradicted back over the border to the U. S., then spent several months in limbo in Concord, New Hampshire, resisting return to New York for a trial on escape charges. He finally was hauled back to NY on January 23, 1914. In 1915 he was judged restored to sanity, and let off scott free. Another Bain/LOC photo of Harry Thaw, in the sheriff's office in Concord, NH (Click on the photo for further links and text):
