USS Mayflower (PY-1) (later as USCG Mayflower (WPG-183)) was the second ship in the United States Navy to have that name. Mayflower — a luxurious steam yacht built in 1896 by J. and G. Thompson, Clydebank, Scotland — was purchased by the Navy from the estate of Ogden Goelet and commissioned at New York Navy Yard on 24 March 1898, Commander M. R. S. Possibly at the Naval Review 14 October 1912 in New York, where a couple of other photos of US warships in the Bain collection were taken. Delaware participated in that review--see the Wikipedia article above. There is a Naval Historical Center page on the Mayflower: USS Mayflower (1898-1931, later PY-1) The ship has a long and fascinating history--see the Wikipedia article. According to that article, the Mayflower was the Presidential yacht, so it seems likely this was the naval review mentioned above. I find it amusing that the designation was PY-1, the equivalent of today's "Air Force 1".
