    At a meeting of Kildare County Council on 30th April 1941, £2000 was allocated to peat turf production. In particular:
    Mr. M. O’Rourke stated that in the Eagle Hill and Iron Hill districts of Suncroft owners of bogs were not in the habit of utilising the turf banks, and he was sure if they were approached that they would let the banks to the Council. The Chairman suggested that as no Parish Council existed in Suncroft. the people should get together and call a meeting. If they got the thing going the County Surveyor would give every cooperation. The County Surveyor (Mr. John Rorke) pointed out that the Council were to communicate with the Parish Councils, but he had heard nothing since. Chairman—Some Parish Councils exist only in name.

    I imagine that increasing turf digging (after dealing with administrative hurdles) would increase the likelyhood of finding ancient artefacts.

    Photo wasn’t used in their trade magazine, as far as I can tell, so no context.
