The lighthouse was built in 1858 according to www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/historic-buildi... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornby_Lighthouse www.seasidelights.com.au/au/NSW/hornby.asp?fState=NSW dictionaryofsydney.org/entry/hornby_lighthouse etc. Which means the 1855 date is dubious, or Mr Gill was 'guessing' what the lighthouse was going to look like - hence the elongation ??

This sketch came from an album of images dated between 1844-1866 so it is quite possibly later. The circa 1855 related to the year he visited Sydney so this may have been made from a photo or someone else's sketch?
