The New-York tribune., September 25, 1919, Image 13, col. 4 (with photo) reported: "More than 1,500 German sailors and other enemy aliens, including many women and children, who have been interned in army camps in this country ... will sail for Rotterdam to-day on the transport Pocahontas on their way to their homes in enemy countries. Guarded by American regulars, 1,431 prisoners arrived at the army piers, Hoboken, yesterday from Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia; Fort McPherson, Georgia, and Fort Douglas, Utah. The article describes the bodies being brought from Archangelsk, Russia aboard the army transport Lake Daraga to Pier 4 in Hoboken, NJ, a funeral ceremony on the pier, then a procession to a mortuary where the bodies could be claimed by families.
