Guildford High Street was on the important old coaching road between London and Portsmouth (the prime naval docks), and would have been a very busy road. A new Guildford bypass opened in 1934 (a couple of years before this photo) - would this explain Mr O'Dea's interest ? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A3_road www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/index.php?title=A3/History Bypass opening 1934 film - youtu.be/LpM4u4TXrP0
