This history was almost suppressed again until recently as some were not orphans ?

In fact this is quite a different scheme. (I think you are thinking of what are commonly known as 'home children'). CORB children were sent abroad by their parents for the sole purpose of ensuring their safety during the Second World War. The overwhelming majority of these evacuees (essentially identical to those evacuated from towns and cities to rural areas in the UK) returned home to their parents towards the end of the war. You can learn more about the CORB scheme on our Your Archives website.

Ok thanks for mentioning that as we have had some coverage of the 'home children' here in NZ .

Is the the post office that has "Neither snow nor rain not heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" carved around the front of the building? I memorised that once when waiting for a train.
