This appears likely to have been taken during the visit of three ships from the German fleet to the USA in early June, 1912. It has plate number 2729-5. good detective "Work", that sure looks like Lt. Work.

No mention of "Lieutenant Work" either ;-) The sailor-prince is likely (German) Lieutenant Commander Christian Prinz von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld [sic Hesse-Philippstadt-Barchfeld] [sic von Hessen-Phillips-thai-Barchfeld] (1887-1971). He visited Washington and New York aboard the Stettin, with the German Cruiser Squadron in June, 1912. –Compiled [1] [2] [3] [4]
