  George Chip (1888-1960) was born George Chipulonis, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He held the world middleweight title from October 11, 1913, until April 7, 1914, having successfully defended it five times in six months. His career lasted from 1909 to 1922, with 71 wins in a total of 164 bouts. BoxRec bout list.

  The caption joins the names of both boxers George Chip and "Fighting" Billy Murray. This photo was taken before one of their two bouts in San Francisco (July 4, 1914 and September 30, 1914). Chip would win by knockout on both occassions.
