  Designed by Walter Liberty Vernon in 1910 (Federation Free Style), and completed in 1912. From the (hideous) telegraph poles and lack of motor vehicles, the photo must be about 1912.

  Familiar landmark for Geordies. Boozing days 40 years later (1970s) get off the bus at Warswick Street, meet your girlfriend outside the fire station, cross the road for a pint or two in The Adelphi pub (Shakespeare Street) have a wee in the underground toilet outside, down to the Market Lane pub then make our way along High Bridge, have a couple in Bacchus pub then The Duke of Wellington, up to the Bigg Market, another wee in the underground toilet, then into The Half Moon. Don't remember much after that. 😵 Thank for sharing a great photo.
