That telephone number was a big hit at the time being so easy to remember. They were known as "The Sixes" and indeed they were a good company to call. Great to see the old cars on display, the Ford Zodiac just out of shot and I can't remember the model of the Vauxhall your driver is leaning on

Swordscookie And they were still called The Sixes or All the Sixes long after the 7 got added at the start of the number in the 1970s, Sean, I think.

In the background you can see the big MH for the Mater Hospital Pools which is very appropriate given the court case at the moment on the Govt. cutting off funding to the private lotteries wiped out by the National Lottery. There was a lot of work going on at the bank on Parnell St./Cavendish Row which has featured in some great discussions on here.

Being of a slightly vertiginous disposition, I don't much fancy the idea of being on the top deck when that tram travels across the bridge - even without passengers, it looks top heavy!

Alas I was born too late for this. How I would love to have taken a tram ride from Howth into the City Centre on a sunny and windy day, sitting aloft at the front seat! Sadly, we'll never see the likes again. By the way, surely not....but is that the very same concrete road surface that's still there today? Stuart.

Crane & Sons Ltd., Musical Instrument Manufacturers 40 Upper Sackville Street, Mentioned here. The trees here look older than today's photo. This photo was dated as circa 1911 definitely earlier than 1911.

The history of Clerys began in May 1853 when Mc Swiney, Delany and Co. opened ‘The New or Palatial Mart' on the site of the present store in what was then Sackville Street. In 1883, the premises was taken over and renamed by M. J. Clery (d.1896) So After 1896 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clerys

Hawksby's didn't advertise in Freeman's themselves, but F.W. Hawksby is listed in 1883 (28rd April) as a stockist of McMahon and Twohils' Irish-made silk and fur hats. Or, as the advertisement put it - "HATS! HATS!! HATS!!!"
