An educated guess: The top end of Mosman Bay looking west from roughly where now is the corner of Avenue Road and Millett Road, Mosman. The tidal flats were filled in and landscaped about 1900 (see all the references to Mosman waterfalls). The Park Avenue waterfall is out of sight behind the pale rock. According to the Rangers Estate map www.nla.gov.au/apps/cdview?pi=nla.map-lfsp1643-sd . there should be another waterfall at the head of the bay right of this photo, near the end of Millett Road. There are (channel?) marker posts in the water and white-painted marker posts. The fence around the trees (why?) is also in this photo www.flickr.com/photos/powerhouse_museum/3195835022/ . Taken at a similar location, but with a large group of people.

This may be Willoughby Falls. There are two views of Willoughby Falls in the Tyrrell Collection on Flickr 1. www.flickr.com/photos/powerhouse_museum/2415290398/ 2. www.flickr.com/photos/powerhouse_museum/2415288660/ And there is a good view of the falls @ Macleay Museum by Robert Hunt (1860) here: www.usyd.edu.au/museums/collections/macleay/hist_photos/v... However I'm not sure,so I'm not putting a tag with that name on this photograph yet.

I believe it is located in Primrose Park, and I'm going there next week to see what sort of comparison shot I can get. Searching for "Willoughby Falls" in Picture Australia is also helpful: www.pictureaustralia.org/apps/pictureaustralia?term1=will... As is searching for "Primrose Park" www.pictureaustralia.org/apps/pictureaustralia?action=PAS... this last result for Primrose Park reveals no waterfalls, so I'm not confident they exist any more. Although this page from North Sydney council suggests the falls still exist in the park: www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/www/html/2247-primrose-park.asp

lifeasdaddy If you go, there are two access points. There is a track behind the tennis courts, or, from the top, there is some stonework on Grafton St, which is the top of that track. I live a couple of hundred metres away, but am a tad lame at the moment.

iansand - Thanks. I visited yesterday and today with inconclusive results. I'm not lame at the moment, but was a bit too scared to get the required shot. Scared of falling and a trip to the hospital that is. I looked down over the stone fencing near Grafton Street, but could not see the path leading up to there. Now you've told me there's a path behind the tennis courts, I'll make another visit and see what I can see.
