Oscar C. Pfaus ??

Courier-Mail, Brisbane 2 February 1950
Remember Oscar and his camera?
MELBOURNE, Wednesday.—
Do any former P.O.W's remember Oscar C. Pfaus, German camp leader and interpreter, who was always so busy with his camera at Stalag 357 at Thorn, Poland, in 1944?
Because he wants to send them prints of the snapshots he took.
Oscar has written to the Governor-General (Mr. McKell) seeking 'the names of his 'Australian friends.' His address is Muellhaeuser Strasse, 7/1. Hamburg 43, British zone, Germany. -

{Aside] 'Yanks' are affectionately known as 'Septics' in Australia. Rhyming slang (septic tanks).

From his wiki page
“The Abwehr's level of knowledge about Ireland was shown by the fact that Pfaus's designated contact was Eoin O'Duffy, a fascist and former Blueshirts leader, but by then, unknown to the Abwehr, a staunch opponent of the IRA.[22] O'Duffy refused to help but Pfaus was able to contact the IRA through O'Duffy's secretary, the fascist sympathiser Liam D. Walsh who knew Maurice Twomey, a former IRA Chief of Staff.”

beachcomber australia That's quite amusing, is rhyming slang as big in Australia as it was in Cockney London?
