I was trying to think of a tag that said something like "beginning of women's liberation movement" but more concise- ideas?

Excellent photo! Love the colors. It blows my mind how this photo survived with great colors! I enjoy the color match of her lipstick and the pen in her hand. I also like the history..how people dressed back then and actually "dolled" up for work like this woman in the 40's.

The Women’s Australian National Service (WANS) was inaugurated in 1940. Training for members of the WANS included air raid drills, first aid, basic military drills, and even shooting, signalling, and mechanics. In the period leading up to the formation of the Australian Women’s Army Service (AWAS), the WANS demonstrated that women were capable of filling roles traditionally filled by men. Sir Percy Spender, Australia’s Minister for the Army, considered women to be an underutilised resource in Australia’s war effort. And work of high merit has been carried out by women members of AEME. Hundreds of AWAS are in the corps, and they are very proud of their AEME colour patch. Some are University graduates. The Army has to rely on many complicated optical instruments for sighting long range artillery, field artillery, anti-aircraft artillery, and coast artillery. These instruments range from ordinary binoculars to complex construction. In all-optical predictors of most work the AWAS has shown extraordinary skill. The girls have also been especially useful in instrument making, armature winding, and other work requiring delicacy of touch, quickness of movement, and perseverance. Brisbane in 1888 was only 7 years behind the world’s first commercial public electricity supply system in Godalming in England in 1881. The advent of “cool” electric light to replace the “hot” gas lights was a welcome change for the citizens in a sub-tropical city, and as had been reported previously in the Brisbane Courier on 23 June, "during summer nights, the employees of the Post Office have suffered considerably through the vitiated state of the atmosphere in this room caused by the large consumption of gas and bad ventilation." The Barton & White enterprise started off providing the whole gamut of electrical services, as well as generation and supply wiring, by “manufacturing all fittings for electric light and power, supply brackets for lamps, sockets, cut outs, portable hand lamps, reflectors, arc lamps of 2000 candlepower, electric motors, etc., and undertake electrical work in all parts of the colony”.(S.A.Prentice Edward Barton Pioneer Electrical Engineer, 1988) From this humble beginning, using small carbon filament lamps and steam boilers fuelled by wood (because the cheaper coal was found to be a smoke nuisance), the whole electricity supply industry in Queensland has grown to provide a service right throughout our state, and which is essential to our modern way of life.
