“Roosevelt wore this elegant slate-blue silk crepe evening gown designed by Sally Milgrim for the 1933 inaugural ball in Washington DC. Her gown was embroidered with a leaf-and-flower design in gold thread.
The gown featured unique detachable long sleeves that were attached by beautiful blue moonstone and rhinestone shoulder clips. The belt buckle and was also made of rhinestone and moonstone.”

FDR himself served four terms, something not since possible, due to the Twenty-second Amendment which now limits office to two terms.
However, his current successor said on a recent TV interview that that he was looking for ways to contest a third term. -

Once I had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: "No good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.”

beachcomber australia I love this one! I do hope she really said it...
The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!

The celebration of Franklin Roosevelt's 56th birthday in 1938 was used to support his campaign for a fight against infantile paralysis (poliomyelitis), from which he suffered (although he developed it as an adult). According to NYT, Jan 30, 1930 (subscription required) query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C02E1D71E3EE03AB... there were many balls that Eleanor had to attend in the Washington, DC area, spending just a few minutes at each. Good sport, indeed! Her husband spent the evening at the White House with former aides and campaign staff and made a radio broadcast.
