Don Nicol, and Ballet, Theatre Royal, Sydney, 30 January 1946 / Sam Hood

Don Nicol (1906-1949) was a popular stage actor, entertainer and comedian. Nicol, whose real name was Daniel (Danny) Robert McNicol, first appeared on the stage at the age of 16. In 1946 he toured country towns for J. C. Williamson as the show's leading comic. [1] [2]

As for the "sparse dressing rooms" ;) interestingly Don Nicol was the Vice President of Actors' Equity Australia in 1944. Actors' Equity was a driving force in improving working conditions for actors, assuring -- just for one example -- that hot water be provided in dressing rooms -- likely not an issue at Theatre Royal, but could be in "country theatres". It looks like a cold water sink behind the chorus girls!

    Sadly it may be.

(There's always a chorus girl blocking the view of the important stuff!)
