CWGC info;
Dickson, Walter Elliott
Pte 19927 26th Batallion Royal Fusiliers
Son of Arthur Darrah and Elizabeth Dickson of 21 Dogo Street, Cardiff.
The 1901 census records him, the youngest of his parents children, living at 17 Rawden Place, Cardiff [the property still exists] with his parents Arthur Darrah [b.1862 Banwell, Somerset] a tobacconist and Elizabeth A [b.1866 Worcester] and two older sisters Dorothy Maud [b.1892 Cardiff] and Elsie May [b.1894 Cardiff] along with his uncle [his mother’s brother] and a domestic servant.
The 1911 census records his father and sisters living at 21 Dogo Street, Pontcana, Cardiff [the property still exist] along with a housekeeper [the house has nine rooms]. His father is recorded as a widower. Walter is not living at the premises.
The description of his father’s employment as a tobacconist [dealer] and the style of house that they lived in leads me to the conclusion that Walter may have been sent away to school. Hence his non-appearance on the 1911 census.
[additional information - found later] His father re-married [Frances / Francesca Mary Aster] a Russia emigrant and accomplished pianist and they had another son Alan Paul Dickson [known as Paul] who went on to become a film director and head of direction at the National Film School.
His obituary is here
www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/nov/08/paul-dickson
As can be seen, he too, was sent away to boarding school . I have yet to discover which [if any] school Walter was sent to.
Walter's father, Arthur, died on the 6th November 1948. -

Well done, shayes2006! I searched for a couple of hours but without any result.
Having just tried again I've still had no success. Could you give me the Registration and Enumeration Districts or a couple of other names from the same address]? -
