    Ha ha! Beautiful gardens were laid out with winding paths and "extras" built by David and his son, Peter, when he inherited in 1785. Among these was the Octagon, built in 1766, with a panther on springs, which could be made to jump out at unwary visitors. The house was most famous for its huge glasshouse, built between 1783 and 1793, in which many exotic plants were grown.

    At the NIAH: Building was converted to a Hydropathic establishment (i.e. a place where invalids etc could receive baths and other water treatments) some time prior to 1864 by a Dr. W. Alfred Johnson. Johnson renamed the building Malvern House after Great Malvern Spa in England, where his father, Dr Edward Johnson, had a similar establishment. It is marked Malvern on the 1900ish 25" map, and the 1930s Cassini. Not named on the 1830s 6".

    The tin roofed building was replaced by "Macks" as seen in the streetview. Macks has 1856 plastered on the front wall which has to refer to the business rather than the building.

    The building at right housing the Post Office was built in 1840. The PO door has been walled up since.

    From the look of the GeoHive 25", the 1856 Mack's is just out of shot at left. The 25" says the PO was here in 1908ish.
