J Edward Addicks seems to have been an aggressive financier and Republican politician from Delaware. Made a lot of money out of gas and selling gas companies to Standard Oil, annoying lots of people in the process. Most of the gas/oil and political activities seem to have been before the period of the Bain photos judging from NYT searches. GAUNTLET DOWN FOR ADDICKS; No Chance of His Election to the Senate, Allee Declares. September 4, 1905, Monday query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9F05E5DC1F3DE633A... includes the quote, "Mr Addicks disappeared today, but his few remaining friends said it was only to sharpen his axe for battle." query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9A0DEFD6153CE633A... is a 1912 obituary for another Delaware Republican that provides context by saying Higgins was "bitterly opposed to Addicks." query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B01E2DF1539EF32A... notes that when his brother Frederick died in 1915, he left no bequest to J. Edward Addicks, referred to as "Gas" Addicks."

This same photo appeared in the American Monthly Review of Reviews for December 1902, so presumably the 1910-15 dates given are incorrect.

This photograph is part of the George Grantham Bain Collection (described here), which is made up of photos from the Bain News Service. In addition to producing their own photography, Bain would copy older images for use and distribution in publications, and this is one of those cases. It was copied by Bain, likely between 1910 and 1915, but the original dates from 1902 or earlier, as you've shown. Thank you for sharing this information!

When I saw Nemours I thought this must have something to do with DuPont and Delaware. According to this old book on trapshooting the Nemours Gun Club was the first women's trapshooting club in the United States, founded in Wilmington, Delaware in 1913.
