The Bandstand, Ashfield

  • BobMeade said:
This bandstand was first used as the pavillion to welcome the first Governor General of Australia, Lord Hopetoun, to Sydney when he landed at Farm Cove on 15 December 1901, as part of the Federation celebrations. See photograph at the National Library of Australia here: nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an24551979 It was recycled to be opened as a bandstand in Ashfield Park in 1903, and demolished due to decay in the 1940s (ref. www.ashfield.nsw.gov.au/pdf_files/ashfield_park.pdf)

Right you are beachcomberaustralia. If you send NLA a note to correct it via their online form they will eventually fix the record.
