Road in South Keene New Hampshire

If this is a photo of South Keene (which I think it is) looking west toward Keene, then the bridge would be crossing the Branch River, and off to the left would be the road to Swanzey Factory (either Swanzey Factory Rd or Depot Rd not sure which). This area (I think) is just a short distance up river from the beautiful stone arch railroad bridge built in 1849 or thereabouts.

That's probably correct. We were having a hard time picturing (no pun intended...) just where this shot was located. It looks so different. Do you think that that brick building on the right is still there?

Wow, this is a great capture. I take it this is the location where the stone arch bridge is now?
  • Keene Public Library and the Historical Society of Cheshire County said:
Yes, it is the same location, but the present highway bridge is concrete and not stone. The railroad bridge, whose roof you can see jutting up on the right of this photo, and its center pier which is behind the front right pier, is just upriver and is stone.

Keene and Cheshire County (NH) Historical Photos Thanks for the reply. I was there last December and I'm planning to move to Vermont when I finish school next year. Bellows Falls is a beautiful little town.
