The line is still twin tracked, and still very straight near Barretstown, Co. Kildare, if that is where we are.

Apparently for packing stones under railway sleepers. A ganger in the signal maintenance department of the then C.I.E. was killed at Dundrum Station in Tipperary when a tamping machine was reversing, and the man was inspecting pins in the sleepers. (Nenagh Guardian, 21 April 1962) In 1966, British Railways planned to save £5 million every year by replacing pick-and-shovel gangs (reducing line maintenance staff from 23,000 to 16,000) with Tamping Machines. They were made by Rolls-Royce at their Shrewsbury factory. Theirs was called the Duomatic Levelling and Tamping Machine. (Irish Press, 1 September 1966) Could ours be a Rolls-Royce model?

I was just gonna say DannyM8 that it didn't like any room in the National Museum that I know. But those pillars behind do look like the columns supporting the mezzanine in the RDS exhibition hall. There's only one Laurence Anthony in the 1911 census - a 7 year old boarder in Co Kilkenny: www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002616424/ He's in the townland of Garrandarragh, which covers the northern part of the town of Mullinavat.

Rory Sherlock I would presume that this would be his family in 1901. He has a geni page and according to that, he was orphaned by 1908.

Yes Sharon - lots of detail on that geni page - He seems to have been born on 27/6/1903 and died on 10/4/1980. He is described as follows: "Was a farm labourer for many years at Joe Woods farm Earlsrath Mullinavat. Later worked on the forestry around the Mullinavat area. Was in America in 1926 as he said himself for long enough to see the time. He was also in Wales in the twenties and later in 1942 working for Langs the builders. He was a very good singer and took part in a lot of plays around the area with the local drama group. He also sang with the Mullinavat church quire and solo as well."
