First, it's clearly not a blimp (a lighter than air craft whose gas bag derives its shape from gas pressure - not an internal frame), it's a rigid airship or dirigible. This one is correctly identified as the ZR-2, a US Navy craft. She had been built for Britain's Royal Navy as the R-38, but was purchased by the US while still under construction. She first flew on 23 June 1921 and fell apart and crashed on her fourth flight on 24 August 1921. Forty four men - both Americans and Britons - were killed in the crash.
