The Duanes siblings William John Victor (1875-1959), Evangeline (1877-1957) & Eileen (1879-1962) were all born in Manchester to Irish parents. The Duane orchestra was still performing in 1939 though by that time Eileen was sadly recorded as an incapacitated former musician.

It does have the look of a juvenile detention centre about it. Perhaps the school authorities were afraid that the inmates, sorry pupils, would sneak out at night to visit the Midleton Distillery located just behind the photographer
