Streetview They're called "The Bungalows" on the OSI 25".

According to Wikipedia a bungalow, an Indian word, means: Built in the Bengali style "A bungalow is a small house or cottage that is either single-storey or has a second storey built into a sloping roof (usually with dormer windows) and may be surrounded by wide verandas ....and was popular with the Arts and Crafts movement."

According to the Newry Reporter of May 31st. 1897, the bungalows were just nearing completion. They were being built by the London and North-Western Company.

The NIAH calls them "single storey with attic" in its entries (1, 2, 3, 4)

NIAH www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/13831... says 1895, perhaps that was the start date. Built as holiday homes. They appear unoccupied, as yet. Must have been a new design for us at that time to merit a photo. However, nowadays the bungalow is the most common type to be seen in the Irish countryside, particularly since the "Tiger" days.. And I don't mean a Bengal tiger.

It usually says "Quiet Hospital"

And there may not be a sign, but it does look like a very quiet hospital anyway. No bustle. A closed gate.

"W.R. & S." is 1903+ ? (I can never remember). The tower has been renovated since, and Cromwell's damage repaired. I can't find when. Mr French has a reverse view with iron railings, presumably after Mr Ritchie. So both before 1914? - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000324468

Lawrence/Robert French was here at a later date as in L_ROY 02128 the Tower has railings surrounding it. Also there is L_CAB 01478 of the Quays with 3 paddle steamers moored. One may be datable from its name if it is a companion plate to 2128. This may help to date the Lawrence photos and narrow the range for the Eason.

TROVE IS SOMETIMES AMAZING! The railing happened on 15 August 1906 - 'Read All About It!' - trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/166968894?searchTerm=%... So this Ritchie photo is before August 1906.

If my memory serves me the monks at the new Abbey used to make marmalade on a commercial scale in the 1970s The new Abbey some 3 or 4 miles from this site was set up in 1938 with foundation stone blessed in 1957.

Mr French's transport (see note) has "57" painted on the rear - see - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000325146 That six-storey mill on the left appears to have had trouble; not even a pile of rubble there now.

No similar angle in streetview, but it does walk right into the ruins in abbeyview

OSI is still not generating links, but the most obvious change is the mill building at left, which is completely gone now.
