Since the man in this photo was a soldier of the Confederate Army, then did he go on to join the Union (US) Army after the Civil War had ended, if he had managed to survive the battles and remained fit for combat? Because shortly after the Civil War had ended, the US Government had resumed the wars against those Native Americans who belonged to the various nomadic tribes.

After surrender, the Confederate soldiers were to cease hostilities and return home. Some enlisted soldiers may have joined the Army afterward, and a number of Confederate officers did re-join the US Army after the war but most went back to civilian lives. Most Union soldiers also returned to civilian life after the war.
