Faith in Australia on the beach at Murawai [Muriwai] ready for take-off with First Official Airmail from N.Z. to Australia, 17 Feb 1934

  • Brenda Anderson said:
According to a nz stamps site: "The Avro 10, Faith in Australia, left Muriwai Beach, Auckland at 6 am and arrived in Sydney 14 hours 10 minutes later. Charles Ulm was the pilot, Scotty Allan the navigator/co-pilot and R.T. Boulton was the engineer. An airmail of 39,255 items was flown and a special cachet was applied."

More photos of this event and aircraft, an Avro X, here. Apparently the wing upper surface was orange, which isn't apparent in these B&W shots.
