Douglas World Cruise

  • rotec.holger said:
The ship is the American four-funnel destroyer USS Pope (DD-225) on a goodwill tour to Japan in 1924 to back up the coincident arrival of the Douglas World Cruisers flight. The floatplane above should be one of the Douglas DWCs (looks a bit like a Martin SC-1 aka Curtiss CS-1). The writing on te lower right side says location is the port of Kushimoto (Translation by Mr. Hayashi Shigeru).

The first ship in the row is USS Reno (DD-303). She was a Clemson-class destroyer built during World War I.

The ship the destroyers are tied alongside of is the destroyer tender, USS Melville (AD-2). See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Melville_(AD-2)
