Wow--my wife and I got our wedding rings in a shop that would have been on the right side of this photo--though it *probably* wasn't there when the photo was taken ;) Also, in other photos it actually is described as (and spelled) "Princess Street." Perhaps it used to be called that?

Castlerock, with its mainline railway connection was no different. Warke’s Quarry was established just behind the village, and the basalt here was worked for many years.
This Basalt was often used for railway balast.
This old photograph shows some of the quarry workings and the road leading to the village of Castlerock.”

The street was never known as Princess Street and would only ever have been written that way in error (a common and easy mistake right enough). It was named after the sons of George III, the British monarch at the time of the New Town's construction in the 1760s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Town,_Edinburgh
