The number on Phyllis Baker's negative is 4134 and her image appears early - in March 1927. So the Hall numbers could be chronological. It's quite possible Vernon & Patsie had a history of performing together - the article mentioned they were both engaged on the 'Fuller Circuit'.

Peggy Petite might be Peggy Buxom by todays standards? She looks very young but then that was the norm in the '20's.

I know where you're going with the Petite vs. Buxom, but that's not exactly the right word here, since we're judging by her legs noting they are not "rail thin" and that word is associate with ... other body parts. The thinness of too many public figures today seems driven by imitation of fashion models, but back to the 20's. This was the age of the flapper which was a period when thin was the style, but as you observe, thinness maybe wasn't as thin as today. As to young, I'm wondering if the short hair with the styled curls would NOT have been associated with (teenagers and younger) youth at the time. This gelled short hair may have said "style". She was going for a youthful persona judging from review with its line "piquant little girl" and she may have been accomplishing that effectively with a more narrow use of lipstick and the high waist and "ruffles" of her skirt. Maybe she is a forerunner of the cartoon character Betty Boop.
