Remember that this was before the days of interstate highway travel. Every trip was an adventure...without rest room equipped buses.

That half-timbered building is Rowley's House. It's now the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery There was a pet shop somewhere off to the right of this shot. My sister used to send gerbils unaccompanied on the Vaggs bus from Oswestry to sell there and the conductor would bring her the money back. She was aged 10 or 11 at the time and got about 40p a gerbil.

The two double-decker buses prominent in the scene are BMMO D5 types introduced in 1949 with production ending in 1952, built and operated by the Midland Red Bus company. the single deckers are also built and operated by the company.
