Correct spelling today is: Buarbreen (meaning: The Buar Glacier) These pictures are fantastic!

I just can't get over how the distribution of these pics on flickr has led many norwegians from the corresponding areas to comment, which again has consequently led to LOC being able to update info on the pictures. For me, it's inspiring to see how my country looked like a hundred years ago. Absolutely amazing :)

this glacier has pulled back to a place right below the two separated arms at the top. it was at it's maximum around 1870-1890, and has shrinked since that. regrettably.

compare this shot with the link posted by rlb.no. Less ice? it seems to me that most of the ice on the valley wall facing us in this picture is totally missing in the more current (2007) shot. Global warming? just another one of Earth's macro cycles? Any thoughts?

The comparison is terrific! The glacier is almost completely melted. And 100 yrs are nothing in earth story.... We have here a proof of global warming, I suppose. This set of photos is amazing, thanks flickR and National Libary for sharing this treasure.
