The Saaihalle or 'Nation House of the Genovese', is a building in Bruges. It dates from the 14th century and is the oldest building in Bruges, the date of which is mentioned on the facade. Today it houses a museum: the museum of fries (in Dutch: Frietmuseum). In the 17th century the lodge was made available to the seedlings, hence also the current name 'Saaihalle'. So are light woolen fabrics. After 1750 the building was used for numerous activities: military warehouse, cabaret, inn, German soldier dormer and cinema. In 1978 it was bought by a bank. Since 2008 there is a Frietmuseum. From 1792 to 1849, saddlers and cabarets were housed in the building. The saddlers also offered their servants accommodation (usually a sixth). The last known saddler who lived there was Karel Tylleman, who remained there until 1849.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/denflater] A very old building with a most varying history..!! That's wonderful - thanks a lot for identifying the Saaihalle and telling us about it. You have indeed helped us improve the information of our images here on Flickr Commons and in our photo database. /Anna B.
