The absurdity of the caption is frightening. You don't MAKE natural gas. These tanks held manufactured gas. The gas was a by-product of the coke manufacturing process. Natural gas was quite rare in New England in 1941. What few pipelines that existed carried oil and not much of it.

This is my grandparents house right before they bought it. This is the 170 range of Walnut St. In New Bedford MA. Was not expecting to find a picture of it on the internet. Thank you for publishing this.
