Wonderful photo. Two veterans of the American Civil War, flying together over the Gettysburg battlefield they fought upon and against each other, 73 years after the conflict ended. Our surviving veterans of the Second World War are almost at the same point in time. I noticed Mr. William H. Jackson's name is provided in the caption with the photo, but not the name of the other veteran. It would seem that has been lost somewhere in the shuffle. Does the Library of Congress have a record of the other veteran's name? Some minutia concerning the photo. These veterans are flying in the rear starboard side of the passenger cabin of a Boeing 247D airliner, belonging to Pennsylvania Central Airlines (PCA).

This is nothing short of amazing.

Poignant moment captured here. To think they experienced the American Civil War, and lived to see the Spanish-American, WWI and on the verge of WWII.

Here's the same Boeing 247 in National Parks Airways Livery before the engine conversion. flic.kr/p/gnE1XK My Grandfather was an Airplane Mechanic in West Yellowstone Montana during the mid 30's. He worked in the original Log Hanger and watched the NPA Boeing 247's come into the park during the summer months.
