The date scribbled on the negative is definitely June 1917, but likely the 10th or 20th.

This was during the mine strike in Colorado that led to the infamous Ludlow Massacre a few days later -- Berkman and the Wobblies had been leading solidarity demonstrations in New York in support of the miners, and this was likely one of those, I would guess.

Also, less than a week before this, Wobblies were clubbed and arrested by the New York police for demonstrations in Union Square: query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F10C12FA3D5E13...
