Cecil Peoli, early aviator, died in a crash in Maryland, 1915--see Early Aviators. Seems likely he is shown here with the Baldwin Red Devil airplane--the diagram looks close, if not identical, to the photo above.

Cecil Peoli flew in Venezuela in April 1914. He was the first man to cross 'El Avila', the mountain that separates Caracas from La Guaira, and at the same time transported the first air mail in Venezuela (5 letters given to him by Carlos Montaubán). www.aviacioncivil.com.ve/cecil-peoli-el-nino-aviador-que-...

Cecil Paoli and Thomas Scott Baldwin are both mentioned in this NYTimes article about a Times airplane derby: (Oct 3, 1913). query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9A03E1DF133FE6... Click on Baldwin tag to learn more about him. The name of Robert Fowler turns up as an aviator in several NYTimes stories of the era. Here is a story of how he flew across the US in a Wright Bros plane (took him over 35 days of flying): select.nytimes.com/mem/archive/pdf?res=F40F10FF3955167A93...
