Is this a genuine glacier, or just a snowfield? If the former - is there a photographic history of glacial retreat over the past 100 years?

A guess at a similar location in 2008 There is no way that this is a real glacier. After a heavy winter drifts will linger through the whole of the following summer, but in most seasons they will have melted by December/January. If I am correct about the location of this shot it is in one of the areas that snow lingers longest.
