I know it was because of the open cockpits but man I do love the style they had back then.

I like that classic aviator look, too.

This is a Caudron G.4. This particular example is powered by two Anzani 10 radial engines (distinguished by their dual exhaust collector rings). See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caudron_G.4

This is one of the 12 Caudron G.4 (also given as G.IV roman numeral) biplanes (partly) produced by the British Caudron Company at Cricklewood. These were fitted with the Anzani radials and delivered to the RNAS. The RNAS order for the machines was dated 1 October 1915, while machines had serials 3289 - 3300. Most of them were deleted in 1916, not an unusual service time for aeroplanes at that time. This picture shows that it was used in some publication. In some way only the lighter part was shown in that publication, sort of Photoshopping avant la lettre.

The gentleman on the left is Dr. Thomas C. Young, (prominent surgeon) Glendale, California. President of the California Aeronautical Association- mid-twenties, member of the Sheriff's Aero Squadron, and owner of the then famous "Wedding Ship" (not shown) in which many a wedding was performed over L.A.in the air. The gentleman on the right, is of course, the famous aviator Jack Frye (friend of Young) the location is likely Burdett operations, Western Avenue, date 1925.
