    Very docile and obliging cows. Try milking an untethered cow - usually, they just walk on leaving you and pail behind.

    Excellent photo but I suspect it was a bit staged? As Stu says milking in a field is likely to leave you sitting on your rear as the cow walks off looking for greener grass. It does show a few changes from present day farms though, such as the horns on the cows, you'd never see them today.

    I think I see a spancel on the back left leg of the cow, hidden by the bucket on the other side, fettering would have made the staging of the photo a bit easier.
