    Marine Attack Squadron ( VMA ) 225 Ireland was part of Britain (UK) then and so it was not unusual to see thoroughly English games like cricket and croquet being widely played by the regiments and civilians too.

    VMA225 you're wrong you know, cricket was widely played in Ireland and that includes down the west. The current Ireland team are very good and have taken some notable scalps, not least the Auld Enemy this year at the Cricket World Cup!!!

    Or maybe Mesopotamia? Allied troops, but the gun on the limber looks rather like a German 10 cm field gun with a Krupps breech... but don't trust me on this one, I'm far from sure, there's bound to be someone around who will tie it down for certain, Carol.

    I'd guess Boer War? Could be something to do with Robert Baden Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement....? Looks like that type of uniform, but I am not an expert at all in Militaria!

    I'd be inclined to agree this smells more Boer War than WW1! The gun could be a Krupps, I thought at first a captured Boer Creusot but the carriage looks unlikely for that.

    I may have to eat my words! This looks a lot more like a Creusot Long Tom than British field piece! The carriage is similar also which would make it a captured Boer field piece.     I have an original photograph of this aircraft - "Twin Nifties II". It was taken in November 1943 at Dobodura, New Guinea, while assigned to the 400th Bombardment Squadron, 90th Bombardment Group, 5th Army Air Force. Why it was labeled "7th Air Force", especially since we did not have an "Air Force" at that time, I do not know. I'm thinking one might wish to regard the labeling of these photos with just a bit of skepticism; and where errors are found, kindly post the correct data.
