Definitely Newcastle, Royal Newcastle Hospital in the centre right third of the photo. Fort Scratchley in the left centre. Nobby's would be further to the left. Royal Newcastle Hospital at a later date here flic.kr/p/9QQYhk LMDHS

Newcastle for sure (foreshore?). But when? And where was the photographer standing? Trying to get relative dates from buildings which are or are not there. Waratah Terraces (see note) is still there (minus one at right) and surrounded by later buildings. Google Street View maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=...
