Excellent photo this. I followed the restoration of The Buttress on the other side of the steps from this building and recorded it inside and out with photographs. A good bunch of lads involved with that project..

Johnson Hedley (1851-1913) was the younger brother of Tyneside artist and woodcarver Ralph Hedley (1848-1913), . Johnson was also an artist, as well as a confectionary wholesaler and retailer, and he specialised in landscape paintings.
