Women's Land Army girls moving cut timber at Gunley Hall, Welshpool

  • Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru / The National Library of Wales said:
Janet Bennet-Evans was the only woman to drive a crawler tractor in the Welsh Region of the Ministry of Supply (Tree Production). Many women worked in the forestry industry, some of them as wood measurers, stacking planks for drying, equipment maintenance, measuring cut wood, measuring and crosscutting poles for props, stripping bark and branches and loading wagons. They also did general work, pruning, felling and planting trees.
