The Monaro is a mostly treeless area between the coast ranges and the Snowy Mountains south of Canberra down to the Victorian border. It is mostly bare rolling hills punctuated by granite outcrops. It is in the rain shadow of the Snowies and does not receive a lot of rain. It is mostly used for grazing. Mainly sheep and some cattle.
